Here at CAPITOL CADILLAC OF SALEM, our service department still uses conventional oil, but with each passing year we rely more heavily on synthetic oil. Why? We get this question often. Here's our quick answer.
Engineered for Longevity
Synthetic oil holds the distinction of having molecular structure built from scratch by people. Most rubber, oil and lubricants are some form of a hydrocarbon, a chainlike molecule found in crude oil and petroleum. Scientists remove these hydrocarbons, restructuring them until they create hydrocarbons of uniform size and shape. They then mix this "basestock" with other compounds to create an oil with the most desirable traits.
Advantages of Synthetic Oil
Being man-made, synthetic oil has remarkable viscosity and the ability to lubricate just about any machine. Its uniform molecular structure results if consistent flow and texture that does not diminish with extreme changes in temperature or driving conditions. Synthetic oil removes engine impurities efficiently, allowing today's cars to go for up to 15,000 miles without requiring an oil change.
